Operation Desert Storm: Full Army Medical Capability Not Achieved

This report reviews the Army’s effectiveness in deploying medical units to the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, including about 23,000 medical personnel & millions of dollars of medical materiel. It provides a detailed examination of whether: (1) the Army had experienced problems in identifying, mobilizing, & deploying medical personnel; (2) medical units had their required equipment supplies, & transportation support; & (3) medical units were able to evacuate & direct patients to appropriate hospitals. The report contains recommendations to the Secretary of the Army for improving the readiness & operational effectiveness of Army medical units.
