Report on Gasoline Pricing in California
Bill Lockyer (ed.). In the first 8 months of 1999, retail gas prices in California (CA) rose dramatically, peaking at $1.62 per gallon in April, 48.4¢ higher than the national average. Gas prices in San Francisco rose to the highest of any city in the nation. After receiving a Preliminary Report in Nov. 1999 listing the factors that contributed to this spike in prices, the CA Attorney General convened a special Task Force on Gas Pricing in CA, incl. rep. from industry & consumer groups. This report is a summary of the proceedings, including discussions from the meetings & info. provided by Task Force members. Discussions covered these subjects: gas prices, supplies, market structure, & fuel taxes.
