Grappling with Peace Education in Serbia
Ruzica Rosandic (au). Since the violent breakup of Yugoslavia began in 1991, Serbia’s children have suffered the debilitating effects of wartime conditions, including social, emotional, moral, & intellectual deprivation. A group of Serbian psychologists & educators sought to ameliorate the effects of war on children through initiating systematic & extensive peace education programs in 1992-98. This report presents 7 of the peace education programs in Serbia, most for preschool & elementary school students, & shows how they fit into the field of peace education more generally. It discusses the methodology & content of the programs & presents evaluations of the programs’ effects.
