Description
Wyman C. Schmidt (ed); Friedrich-Karl Holtmeier (ed). A product of the first comprehensive & international examination of stone pine species of the world. It reports the papers that were presented at the International Workshop held Sep. 5-12, 1992. There are 5 subalpine stone pines in the world -- all in the Northern Hemisphere -- one in North America & 4 in Europe & Asia. Stone pines are defined as those species of Pinus that have 5-needled fascicles, have wingless seeds, & have cones that remain closed at maturity. This workshop aimed to: (1) improve international cooperation & collaboration between scientists; (2) exchange research findings: & (3) determine knowledge gaps in the ecology & management of subalpine stone pines of the world.
