States of the former Soviet Union, as well as in other nations throughout Central & Eastern Europe. Many of these reactors are similar in design to the Chernobyl reactor in Ukraine that exploded in 1986, causing the worst accident in the history of nuclear power. Deficiencies in the design of many of these reactors pose grave safety risks.
