At present, when American vote for President, they are not actually casting their vote for President, but rather for a group of electors pledged to vote for a particular ticket. There are potential problems with this system. It is possible that the person who actually wins the electoral vote may receive fewer popular votes than his opponent. It is also possible that due to a strong third party candidate, no candidate will receive a majority of the electoral votes, & the election of the President would be carried out by the House of The proposals would amend the Constitution to abolish the Electoral College & provide for the direct election of the President & Vice President.
