Augustine Catechism: The Enchiridion on Faith, Hope, and Love
Our Price:
$20.00
Written as a favor for a friend, this “little work” of Saint Augustine is a wonderful explanation of the Christian faith, a true catechism. From it other catechisms throughout the history of the Church have sprung up, including the recent “Catechism of the Catholic Church,” which quotes Augustine extensively. Within the context of the three theological virtues -- faith, hope, and love -- Augustine masterfully covers Christian beliefs. He extensively comments on the Creed, the Lord’s Prayer as recorded by Matthew, and the sacraments. This is a colossal work in one small volume.
Confessions of Blessed Alonso de Orozco
Our Price:
$20.00
A publication of Blessed Alonso de Orozco (1500-1591) is an opportunity to make known an outstanding writer of devotional literature in the Spanish Golden Age. He was an Augustinian friar who witnessed the renascence of the Augustinian Order in Spain. In his own time he made himself known by his sermons and the books on spirituality which he wrote, in the purest Spanish, covering the various problems encountered in Christian life. He teaches the science of prayer. He is a catechist who reflects profoundly on the mystery and ministry of God’s word. He tries to instruct Christians and help them to be truly Christian. The English translation of the “Confesiones del Beato Alonso de Orozco” is based on the 1892 edition which was printed in Manila, the Philippines. Other editions followed. In 1991, to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Blessed Alonso de Orozco’s death, this first edition in English appeared.
Blessed Simon Fidati of Cascia
Our Price:
$20.00
This book offers an insight into the life and thought of a learned Augustinian friar of the fourteenth century, Blessed Simon Fidati of Cascia. In the course of history this Augustinian has been forgotten, yet in his own day and in the years after his death he was considered to be one of the greatest preachers of an era in which there were many great preachers. As these pages show, Blessed Simon wrote much, and his monumental work on the gospel has yet to be appreciated in its entirety. However, the main thrust of his writings and the example of his life center on his religious vocation. Chapters: Simon Fidati of Cascia; The Spirituality of Blessed Simon; The Religious Life in the Thought of Blessed Simon; Themes from the Writings of Blessed Simon; Biography of Blessed Simon of Cascia.
Book of Augustinian Saints
Our Price:
$20.00
In this collection of biographical sketches and, where possible, illustrations of saints and blessed of the Augustinian Family, the goal is to present the most up-to-date material on each and every saint and blessed. This was possible because of the various studies of these saints, especially by Augustinians, over the years. This book also contains lives of the blessed of the Augustinian Family. One must consider those who from the beginning, that is, from 1244, the founding of the Augustinian order, researched and wrote about these holy women and men and passed on to posterity their lives. The entries, beginning with Saint Augustine of Hippo, are arranged by type: The Saints; Devotion of Mary in the Augustinian Family; and The Blessed. Includes an alphabetical index, and The Augustinian Calendar. Illus.
The Life of Saint Augustine
Our Price:
$20.00
Possidius, who lived in close and harmonious friendship with Augustine for about forty years, described his aim for writing this Life of Saint Augustine: “I must therefore obey the inspiration of God, maker and ruler of all things, and not keep to myself what I know of the life and conduct of that excellent bishop, Augustine, a man predestined and revealed at the proper time. What I have to say is based on what I saw of him and heard from him.” This volume has three sections: (I) The Life and Activity of Augustine: A Chronological Account; (II) Augustine’s Everyday Life; (III) Last Years and Death. It includes a detailed account of Augustine’s ordination as priest. Illus.
Augustinian Law and Charism: The Life and Work of Clement of Osimo
Our Price:
$20.00
Blessed Clement, third prior general of the Augustinian Order, held this position in the 13th century during the period that may well be regarded as the most difficult and precarious of the Order’s entire history: the period of systematic organization as a unified society and of preparation for the new mission, the apostolate. It was principally Blessed Clement who welded the heterogeneous elements out of which the Augustinian Order had been formed by the Great Union of 1256, into a body one in spirit and action as well as in outward appearance. This biography and examination of Blessed Clement’s ministry and legacy provides a glimpse of the past in his work for the Order and in his deep holiness. His love for the Church and the order of Saint Augustine make him a shining example for us today. Illus.
Saint Clare of the Cross of Montefalco
Our Price:
$20.00
Saint Clare (c. 1268-1308) was abbess of the monastery of the Holy Cross in Montefalco, in the diocese of Spoleto. At the time of her death, Berengario was vicar general of the bishop of Spoleto. He had never seen her or visited her monastery, but he came to know of Clare’s high reputation for holiness. After her death Berengario decided to carry out an investigation into her life and miracles, to preserve the value of testimonies “and in order that the Roman Church would have sufficient material at its disposal, should it decide to undertake a canonical process.” In reading this Life of Saint Clare, special attention should be paid to those pages in which Berengario tries to give expression to Clare’s spirituality and her teachings on grace, the way of virtue, union with God, love of truth, and kindness to others. The reason for this advice is the danger that those pages may be at least partially overlooked because of the greater speace given to the story of prophetic experience,s miracles, and “vision.” These pages provide a glimpse of the holiness of this “very great little lady” which will make us desire to know her better. In shrink wrap.
