BERNIE CLEFF, is one of Philadelphia’s most successful freelance photographers, is listed in “Who’s Who in America and “The Working Press of the Nation.” A Philadelphia native, he was born in 1927. Following his service in the U.S. Navy, he graduated from the Philadelphia College of Art in 1950.
Now retired, Bernie has over 53 years experience as a professional photographer. He is a life member of ASMP (American Society of Media Photographers)—having specialized in aerial, editorial, corporate, advertising and architectural photography. His work has appeared in such publications as: Fortune, Business Week, Forbes, Venture, The New York Times Sunday Magazine, National Sculpture Review, Smithsonian, AIA Journal, and many other periodicals and books.
Bernie’s major works are: “Sculpture of a City Philadelphia’s Treasures in Bronze and Stone” photographed for the Fairmount Park Art Association; “The Cape May Handbook,” photographed for the City of Cape May & The Historic American Buildings Survey—for the National Park Service; “Daniel Chester French—An American Sculptor,” sponsored by the Metropolitan Museum of Art—for the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
His photographs for the Daniel Chester French Retrospective exhibition was shown at The Metropolitan Museum of Art; the National Collection of Fine Arts—Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.; The Detroit Institute of Arts; and the Fogg Art Museum, Harvard University.
His most recent photographs appear in the book ”Historic Rittenhouse—A Philadelphia Neighborhood,” published by University of Pennsylvania Press
