United Nations: Management Reforms Progressing Slowly with Many Awaiting General Assembly Review
Thomas Melito (au)
Despite various reform efforts, significant inefficiencies in U.N. management operations persist. In Sept. 2005, heads of U.N. member states approved a resolution that called for a series of reforms to strengthen the organization. As the largest financial contributor to the U.N., the U.S. has a strong interest in the progress of U.N. reform initiatives. This report: (1) identifies & tracks the status of U.N. management reforms in 5 key areas; & (2) identifies factors that may affect the implementation of these reform initiatives. To address these objectives, the author reviewed documents proposing U.N. management reform & interviewed U.S. & U.N. officials. Includes recommendations. Illustrations.
