Description

This revised version of the 1989 Feral House edition of “Tortures and Torments of the Christian Martyrs” is in print once again in recognition of Mel Gibson’s use of its contents for his film, “The Passion of the Christ.” The text and engravings for this book have been offset from the limited Fortune Press version (circa 1930), which itself was a photographic copy from the first, very rare English language folio, published in 1904. This edition is augmented with an illustrated forensic monograph on the physical death of Jesus Christ by physicians of the Mayo Clinic. Nearly 24 illuminations were executed specifically for the Feral House volume by contemporary artists, some of whom gained substantial recognition for their work. “Not for the faint of heart.”
