Food Assistance: Nutritional Conditions and Program Alternatives in Puerto Rico
John W. Harman (ed); Charles A. Bowsher (pf)
This report provides information on selected aspects of federal food assistance in Puerto Rico and the potential impacts of program modifications. In response to concerns that federal food assistance in Puerto Rico might not safeguard recipients against hunger and afford them the same nutritional benefits as other U.S. citizens receiving federal food assistance, the Congress directed the auditor to study: (1) the nutritional needs of the citizens of the Commonwealth, with particular emphasis on the elderly and children; and (2) potential alternative means of providing nutrition assistance in Puerto Rico. Charts and tables.
