New Frontiers in Environmental Sciences and Human Health: NIEHS 2006-2011 Strategic Plan
David A. Schwartz (fr)
The Nat. Inst. of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) vision is to prevent disease and improve human health by using environmental sciences to understand human biology and human disease. This new vision will require a change in the way we conduct basic science. Traditionally, this research was carried out by single investigators working on narrowly defined hypotheses. The new NIEHS strategy adds integrated science teams conducting disease-focused research on complex hypotheses regarding the interplay of environmental agents and other risk factors, such as genetics, age, diet, and activity levels. Recent advances in technology make this multifaceted research possible. Here are the new set of goals for 2006-2011 for NIEHS. Illus.
