Description
The Kahn Bani Sa’ad Correctional Facility was a $40 million effort that the U.S. gov’t. terminated in June 2006. The objective of the original task order was to increase the number of beds of the Iraqi Corrections Service for the Iraqi Ministry of Justice. When the project was terminated, the facility was only partially completed; subsequently, the U.S. gov’t. awarded 3 successive contracts to complete the work. In June 2007 the U.S. gov’t. terminated all remaining work on the project and left more than $1.2 million in materials at the site. The project site was visited to verify the current status and the condition of the material. This report identified the actions taken since the project was turned over to the Gov’t. of Iraq and the current condition of the project. Illus.
