Joseph W.A. Whitehorne (au); William A. Stofft (fr)
The Battle of New Market was the first of a series of battles taking place in the summer & fall of 1864 that destroyed Confed. power in the Shenandoah Valley. This guide provides a general briefing & then goes to 12 locations important to aspects of the battle. The first part of the tour is by car, while the remainder is on foot. The 2 miles of walking are in the confines of the VA Mil. Inst. battlefield park on roads & open field. The tour concludes with a visit to the museum. Maps & illus.
