Tests for Formaldehyde in Milk: Publications of the Wagner Free Institute of Science in Philadelphia: Volume 4 -- Part 1 (1944)

The relative merits of five different tests for formaldehyde, each directly applicable to milk, are displayed in the diagram in this paper. The literature upon such tests separately is abundant, but efforts to bring several of them to a comparable basis for purposes of milk analysis have not been found. While involved recently in two prosecutions for the sale of cream containing formaldehyde, the desirability of such comparable data was forced upon the writer. The data in this paper are all stated in terms of the concentrations with respect to the “Liquor Formaldehyde, Solution of Formaldehyde, U.S.P. XII.” Tables.
