Description
On Earth Day 2004, Pres. Bush unveiled a new policy for our nation’s wetlands. Moving beyond “no net loss” of wetlands, he challenged the nation to increase the quantity as well as quality of these important resources, & set a goal of restoring, improving & protecting more than 3 million acres in 5 years. The Pres. recognized that a continuous effort to track progress toward achieving the various aspects of the Admin’s. new policies would be important. This is the Admin’s. report to Congress that provides scientific & statistical results on progress made toward our national wetlands acreage goals. For the first time net wetland gains, achieved through the contributions of restoration & creation activities, surpassed net wetland losses. Illustrations.
