Spiritual Journey: Augustine’s Reflections on the Christian Life
Michele Cardinal Pellegrino
Cardinal Pellegrino’s magnificent book “Itinerario Spiritual” appeared in Italian in 1964. It was truly considered a gem in Augustinian pubications because for the first time it provided a compilation of texts which gave Augustine’s thought on the Christian life. The text was published in English in 1972 under the title “Give What You Command.” This 1996 edition uses the original title of the Italian work. It reflects what Cardinal Pellegrino discovered to be at the heart of Augustine’s genius -- a tension and dynamism centered in the search for God. Chapters include: Interiority; Humility; Conquest of the Senses; God; Jesus Christ; The Church; Love; Grace and Prayer; and The Ultimate Goal.
