Since 2001, Congress has provided the DoD with hundreds of billions of dollars in supplemental and annual approp. (SAA) for military oper. (MO) in support of the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT). DoD’s reported annual obligations for GWOT have shown a steady increase from $0.2 billion in FY 2001 to $140 billion in FY 2007. In FY 2007, Congress provided DoD with $162 billion in SAA for GWOT. DoD has requested $189 billion in approp. for FY 2008. Here is an analysis of DoD’s reported obligations for MO in support of GWOT through Sept. 2007 and includes: (1) DoD’s approp. and reported obligations for MO in support of GWOT through FY 2007; and (2) DoD’s FY 2007 reported obligations for GWOT by mil. serv. and approp. account.
