Description
The Office of Inspector Gen. (OIG) conducted a review of actions allegedly taken by the Corp. for Public Broadcasting (CPB) that may have been in violation of the CPB’s authorizing statue, the Public Broadcasting Act (PBA) of 1967, as amended. The OIG focused on specific limitations placed on the roles of CPB & its Board of Directors in programming development & programming decisions made by individual public TV entities. The PBA also forbids CPB from using “political tests or qualifications” in making employment decisions & prohibits interference by federal officials with public telecomm. or the content or distribution of public programming. In addition, the OIG reviewed the selection process for CPB’s new Pres./CEO.
