In 1952 Rev. Thomas Purcell, O.S.A. (1913-2004), together with Fathers George Krupa and Ed. Robinson estab. the first Catholic mission in Nagasaki, 315 years after Catholics had been banned from Japan. He stayed in Japan for over 50 years. On Nov. 27, 2004, Rev. Purcell passed away. This book includes: the history of Christianity in Japan; background info. on St. Augustine and The Augustinians; the history of Rev. Purcell’s life in Japan; remembrances and reflections of Rev. Purcell; his funeral, and beatification; and 3 letters written by Rev. Purcell.
