Report of the Investigation on Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean, et al., by the Department of Homeland Security, Office of Inspector General
James E. Smith (ed)
Former Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean were convicted by a jury in a public trial. The investigation was initiated on March 4, 2005, based upon receipt of info. alleging that Osvaldo Aldrete-Davila, a Mexican national, was shot by an unknown Border Patrol Agent while attempting to illegally cross into the U.S. on Feb. 17, 2005. Ramos and Compean were both arrested, after which they were both placed on indefinite suspension without pay. They were indicted by a Fed. Grand Jury and found guilty of many of the charges, but found not guilty of assault with intent to commit murder, and aiding and abetting. On Oct. 19, 2006, Ramos was sentenced to 11 years of incarceration and Compean to 12 years of incarceration. Illustrations.
