Description
Recent terrorist events, natural disaster, and the potential for a flu pandemic have changed the traditional role and responsibilities of local law enforcement agencies. As the U.S. persists in its global fight against terror and local budgets continue to shrink, cities and counties will play a central role in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from a pandemic. More than 4 years after 9/11, state and local entities responsible for the public safety still are working through how best to define, understand, and respond to critical incidents. Many of the same strategies could be used for a law enforcement response to a pandemic. This article agues that law enforcement leaders should consider the implications a pandemic would create on the workforce and develop plans. Illus.
