The prints, drawings, and photographs selected for this exhibition form part of the texture of Philadelphia from the middle of the 18th to the middle of the 20th century. The remarkably large number of recently-acquired pictures does not encompass the city's total history, but it is not that kind of exhibition. It is an introduction to a growing collection of Philadelphia iconography. I have selected, arranged, grouped and described some of our lesser known and previously unseen Philadelphia pictures.
