Description
Interest by state and local groups from around the nation in preserving collections of flags has increased. This symposium created a basis for better understanding between historians, collection liaisons and conservators. The PA Capitol Preservation Comm. program to document and conserve PA’s 400 Civil War flags provided the impetus for organizing such a meeting. The topics addressed the questions that had arisen during discussions of this project. Sessions: (1) Issues and Perspectives on the Study of Flags; (2) What Can We Expect from Conservation and Conservators? An Overview of Approach and Cost Considerations; (3) Approaches to the Preservation of Entire Collections; (4) Funding -- Public and Private. Illustrations.
