New Deal: A 75th Anniversary Celebration
Kathryn A. Flynn (au); Richard Polese (au); Anna Eleanor Roosevelt (pf); Christopher N. Breiseth (fr)
The New Deal (ND) was a group of programs initiated by Pres. Franklin D. Roosevelt to help Amer. recover during the Great Depression (1933-43). Programs such as the Works Progress Admin., the Civilian Conservation Corps,, and the Tennessee Valley Authority gave hope and support to millions of Amer. in their time of need. The ND also supported the arts: from murals in new public buildings to theater productions, from musicians to photographers to writers who helped tell the story of America, write the guides to the 48 states, and record the recollection of elderly Amer., incl. former slaves. Several ND programs, incl. Social Security, continue today. This book provides a guide to and graphic evidence of the ND in all its variety and vitality. Illus.
