Awakening interest in African American history in the 1960s led the Library Company to reexamine its nearly half-million holdings acquired over two centuries for relevant sources. Under the leadership of Edwin Wolfe 2nd, and in collaboration with the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, we scoured every nook and cranny of our printed and manuscript collections and found thousands of rare and useful titles.
