Description
The tendency in Chinese ceramic studies has been to isolate the material from other media of artistic expression, & also from the social & econ. influences to which it has been subject. There has been a failure to take into account the wider cultural arena of Asia, esp. Persia & the range of expression associated with them, in different periods. One aspect of the influences at work in the technology, form & decoration in a limited sense, is the subject of this study, which attempts to break down some of the barriers that have placed Chinese ceramics in a vacuum. Examines the relationships not only between Chinese metalworking & the ceramics from T’ang through Yuan, but also the impact of foreign metalworking in bronze, brass & silver on Chinese practice.
