Data from 48 studies conducted among 14 cohorts & 22 studies from other populations show that vasomotor symptoms & vaginal dryness are most consistently assoc. with menopause; sleep disturbance, somatic complaints, urinary complaints, sexual dysfunction, mood, & quality of life are inconsistently assoc. Results of treatment trials are consistent & conclusive only for estrogen. For other agents, the evidence base is limited by lack of studies demonstrating effectiveness, poor quality of existing studies, & incomplete info. on adverse effects. Illustrations.
