Nearly five centuries have passed since Leonardo recorded his thoughts & designs for machines intended to simplify the routine tasks that he saw being performed. His wanted to have the work done more quickly & easily, while maintaining uniformity & precision. As adviser to heads of state, the mil., nobles, & estate managers, he acted as designer, engineer, architect, geologist, anatomist, master of ordnance, & seer, as well as a painter of masterpieces. His drawings helped define the status of the mechanical arts of the last quarter of the 1400s. This monograph discusses the large gathering of the Codex Atlanticus & Codex Madrid I, which contains most of the investigations that Leonardo made in machines & in mil. matters. Includes his original draw.
