Lives of the Silent Stones in the Christ Church Burial Ground: 50 Family Profiles
Jean K. Wolf (au)
This booklet provides information on a number of people buried in Christ Church Burial Ground, Philadelphia, from signers of the Declaration of Independence to soldiers of the Civil War. Over 4,000 people lie under the soil at 5th & Arch St., but only about 1,300 markers remain. The booklet provides a sampling of social history to give a sense of the wide variety of people & their accomplishments for the city, the state of Pennsylvania, & the nation. The Burial Ground is divided into 18 sections, 9 on each side of the parth starting at the main gate on Arch St. Each section is lettered starting with A at Arch St. on the right (west) side of the path & ending with R on the left (east) side of the path. The centerfold of this booklet depicts the different shapes & names of the grave markers. Includes a chronology of Christ Church Burial Ground & a section on its significance, history, & preservation philosophy; & a chronology of Mayors of Philadelphia from 1727-1844. Illus.
