The story of Logan's library is told in two parts: its formation by Logan himself - a kind of biblio-biography - and its subsequent history. An appraisal of the quality of the library, how it compared with other contemporary American collections, has not been written. Such a study awaits another occasion. It will be obvious, however, from a cursory glance at the titles that in the fields of science, classical literature, history and linguistics Logan's collection was superior to that of other colonial American libraries, private and institutional, of which we have records, and, indeed, to the known holdings of some prominent Englishmen of the period.
