Description
In Fifth Street, Philadelphia. Drawn & Engraved by W. Birch & Son. (Philadelphia: Published by R. Campbell & Co., No. 30 Chesnut[sic] Street, 1799).
Enjoy two opposing architectural styles, the classical design of the original Library Company building adorned by a statue of Benjamin Franklin next to the much more modest wooden building housing the blacksmith. With several pedestrians and a horse-drawn cart, this is a realistic scene of activity in the center Philadelphia, capitol of the young nation.
