In fact the EC created the European Group on Ethics (EGE) in 1991, making this one of the first ethics committees in the world. The EGE produced a report in May 2000 which emphasized the importance of the ethics of responsibility, especially in response to the major risks arising from the instrumentalization of the human body, discrimination based on genetic characteristics & the merchandising of the human body, its components & products. This report presents the Opinions & other statements which the EGE published during its term of office, & the impressions of the President & its Members.
