Law enforcement officers (LEOs) within the fed. gov’t. play a key role in maintaining the safety & security of fed. property, employees, & the general public. This report describes the number of LEOs that fed. civilian law enforcement components employed as of June 30, 2006; the fed. job series classifications the components used to employ LEOs; & the sources of their primary legal authorities. 104 fed. civilian law enforcement components were identified & administered 2 Web-based surveys to each -- one on the primary authorities & the other on the job series classifications. A LEO is defined as an individual authoriz. to perform any of 4 functions: conduct criminal investigations, execute search warrants, make arrests, or carry firearms. Illus.
