Description

In 2001, the Office of the Inspector Gen. (OIG) conducted audits of the controls over weapons & laptop computers throughout the Dept. of Justice (DoJ). The OIG conducted separate audits of the controls over weapons & laptop computers at the FBI, the DEA, the Fed. Bureau of Prisons, & the U.S. Marshals Service. The OIG’s 2002 report on the FBI disclosed significant losses of weapons & laptop computers & examined the adequacy of the FBI’s response to these losses. The OIG conducted this follow-up audit to assess the progress of the FBI in addressing the deficiencies regarding control over weapons & laptops. OIG determined that, except for stolen laptop computers, the rate of loss for each property category decreased. Charts & tables.
