Colleen Helgeson Nelson
Nelson began her lifelong study of birds at age 11, & began field research on the downy waterfowl in 1962 at the Delta Waterfowl & Wetlands Research Station. She emigrated to Canada in 1963, & during the ensuing years conducted work at several wildfowl & waterfowl stations. Her paintings appear in numerous museums & private collections. Nelson began this magnificent volume as a record, in watercolor, of the day-old young of the North American waterfowl. Based on her decades of work, she provides detailed descriptions, drawings, color portraits, & diagnostic identification of live, day-old young of North American waterfowl. Also includes an illustrated glossary; discussion; references; table of weights & measurements; color descriptions; & identification keys.
