Military operations in Iraq & Afghanistan have focused attention on DoDís supply chain management. (SCM). The supply chain can be critical to determining outcomes on the battlefield, & the investment of resources in DoDís supply chain is substantial. In 2005, with the encouragement of the Office of Mgmt. & Budget (OMB), DoD prepared an improvement plan to address some of the systemic weaknesses in SCM. The author was asked to monitor implementation of the plan & DoDís progress toward improving SCM. This report reviewed: the integration of SCM with broader defense bus. transformation & strategic logistics planning efforts; & the extent DoD is able to demonstrate progress.
