As the DoD has expanded its involvement in overseas military operations, it has grown increasingly reliant on its fed. civilian workforce to support contingency operations. This report examined DoD’s policies concerning the health care for DoD civilians who deploy in support of contingency operations in Afghanistan & Iraq. Over 3,400 deployment-related records were analyzed for deployed fed. civilians. Dept. officials were interviewed to determine the extent to which DoD has established & the military services & defense agencies have implemented: (1) force health protection & surveillance policies; & (2) medical treatment policies & procedures for its deployed fed. civilians.
