The DoD has had problems with tracking & identifying inventory for many years. One of several tools DoD is using to address these inventory problems is radio frequency ident. (RFID), which consists of passive or active tags that are attached to equipment & supplies that are shipped from one location to another. As of 1/1/07, all commodities, excluding bulk commodities, are to have passive RFID tags.
