Description
In the early 1960s, when the Cold War was at its height, the Communist-ruled island of Cuba was a source of much anxiety in the U.S. In April 1961, Cuban exiles with U.S. backing attempted to overthrow Fidel Castro’s government in the ill-fated Bay of Pigs invasion. But more tension was yet to come. In Oct. 1962, Pres. Kennedy received irrefutable evidence that the Soviets were intent on installing nuclear missiles on Cuba. This “Uncovered Edition” presents a selection of documents released by the U.S. Government which reveal in chilling detail how close the world came to nuclear war at that time. “Uncovered Editions” are historic official papers which have not previously been available in a popular form.
