Critical Infrastructure: The National Asset Database
John Moteff (au)
The Dept. of Homeland Security (DHS) has been developing & maintaining a Nat. Asset Database (NAD) which contains info. on over 77,000 individual assets, ranging from dams, haz. materials sites, & nuclear power plants to local festivals, petting zoos, & sporting good stores. The presence of a large number of entries of the latter type has attracted much criticism. Many critics of the NAD believe it is being used inappropriately as the basis upon which fed. resources are allocated. According to DHS, the NAD is a nat. asset inventory providing the ‘universe’ from which various lists of critical assets are produced. This report discusses: what the NAD is & is not; its intended uses; & the issues of quality; what to keep; & a potential change in status for the NAD. Charts.
