When Mother Teresa died at age 87 in 1997, she left behind an org., the Missionaries of Charity, that today continues her work in countries around the world. In 1995, Schaeffer met Mother Teresa during a visit to Atlanta, Georgia. Schaeffer was given an opportunity to do a photo story for CNN. She decided to turn the assignment into a journey into the world of Mother Teresa; she went to work in an orphanage in Calcutta. This led to a growing relationship between the two women that culminated in Linda being given permission to photograph whatever she felt would show the real environment in which this remarkable woman & her nuns & volunteers lived & worked. The result is this vol. of photos & words (that came from Schaeffer’s own handwritten journal).
