Chess Collection of George Allen

George Allen, 1808-1876, was an educator, Episcopalian clergyman, and author. His chess library containing printed books, manuscripts, and prints was one of the most impressive of the 19th century. The Library Company purchased the entire collection in 1878. This publication is the companion catalog to the March 1980 exhibition of the same title.
