| An Address Delivered March 25, 1942, in Commemoration of the 200th Anniversary of the Granting of the Charter of the Library Company by Francis Packard, Editor of the Annals of Medical History. It seemed appropriate that day to glance at the membership of the Library Co. in 1742 when its members applied for & obtained a charter. The most cultivated & intellectual citizens of Philadelphia were its chief supporters. There were no less than 75 names appended to the application; some of these include Benjamin Franklin, Nicholas Scull, Hugh Roberts, William Rawle, Samuel Norris, Samuel Coates, Thomas Godfrey, William Parsons, Robert Grace, Joseph Breintall, William Coleman, Robert Grace, & Philip Syng. |
