When the tall brick walls of Christ Church rose above the modest streets of Quaker Philadelphia, it must have been the architectural sensation of its time. Already in 1727 the parish fathers were emulating the great works of Sir Christopher Wren & Nicholas Hawksmoor in faraway London. Two of the three essays in this vol. were originally published for the 1981 U. of Pennsylvania Hospital Antiques Show at which the art, archives, & architecture of Christ Church Philadelphia were the exhibition.
