On Sunday, January 30, 1972, a protest march organized by the Northern Ireland Civil Rights Assoc. took place in Londonderry, Northern Ireland, in the area of the Bogside & Creggan Estate. During the afternoon of that march, 13 civilians were killed by British soldiers, & another 13 were injured. As a result, a tribunal was appointed to inquire into the events which led up to this tragic loss of life. Heading the inquiry was Lord Widgery.
