Description   by Edwin Wolf 2nd. (au). Edwin Wolf 2nd died on 20 February 1991 at the age of seventy-nine. Mr. Wolf began his long association with the Library Company in 1952, when the Directors hired him as a consultant to survey the collections and advise them about the future direction of the institution. Mr. Wolf's report concluded that the Library Company's rare book collection was of enormous significance, and he recommended that the Library Company become a scholarly research library with special emphasis on the history and culture of America to 1880. The report became the virtual blueprint for the renaissance of the Library Company over the coming decades that Mr. Wolf orchestrated. By the time he retired as Librarian in 1984 the Library Company was recognized as one of the nation's premier independent research libraries.
