Reprint by the Historic Burlington County Prison Museum Assoc. of a publication originally published in 1833 by Order of the Sheriff of Burlington County, New Jersey. On July 16, 1833, in Mount Holly, NJ, the sentence of the law was executed upon Joel Clough, the Murderer of Mrs. Mary W. Hamilton, of Bordentown, New Jersey. Upward of 12,000 persons were present to witness the execution. This publication includes Joel Clough’s stated confession, along with an extract of a letter to his mother, Chief Justice Hornblower’s Charge to the Jury, Sentence of Death, etc., and also an account of his escape from prison, his recapture, and execution.
