Description
The Architectural & Transportation Barriers Compliance Board (Access Board) is issuing final guidelines to provide additional guidance to the Dept. of Justice (DoJ) & the Dept. of Transport. (DoT) in establishing alternate specifications for building elements designed for use by children. These specifications are based on children’s dimensions & anthropometrics & apply to building elements designed specifically for use by children ages 12 & younger. This rule ensures that newly constructed & altered facilities covered by titles II & III of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 are readily accessible to & usable by children with disabilities. The standards established by DoJ & DoT must be consistent with these guidelines. Illustrations.
