Description

The DoD & the intell. community (IC) rely on various systems to provide imagery to commanders & intell. analysts. Also, DoD uses manned & unmanned aircraft equipped with ground moving-target indication (GMTI) radars to detect military units, vehicles, & other moving targets on the ground. DoD wants the investment in such systems to grow in order to provide a persistent capability to identify & track moving ground targets in denied areas. DoD is proposing to develop a constellation of Earth-orbiting Space Radar satellites (SRS) that would provide imagery, GMTI, & geospatial intell. products. This study examines the costs & potential perform. of 4 possible designs for a SRS. Also highlights the technol. challenges assoc. with developing & oper. SRS. Illus.
